Scrivener webinar at Mark Dawson’s Self Publishing University

I’m giving a Scrivener webinar for Mark Dawson’s Self Publishing Formula University (SPFU) on Wednesday, May 15th. You can join the fun for just $1 US by signing up to Mark’s Patreon account at the $1/week level (no long-term commitment required).

Patreon supporters get membership of SPFU (with five quality webinars so far in the library), exclusive contents, a shoutout on the podcast, and depending on level, an SPF pin, all PDFs and handouts mentioned in podcasts, and chances to win access to premium courses.

If you’re not familiar with Mark Dawson, he’s the man behind the popular Self Publishing Show podcast, and the author of bestselling thrillers, who generously gives of his time and knowledge to help indie authors succeed. In fact, his series on Amazon ads a couple of years ago gave me the confidence I needed to wade into advertising my books.

I hope you’ll join me for the webinar! Also, look for me on an upcoming episode of the Self Publishing Show.

If you have any questions, just leave a comment below.

See you there!

Write. Publish. Repeat. Good advice.

Looking for a definitive guide to self-publishing? Try Write. Publish. Repeat. (The No-Luck-Required Guide to Self-Publishing Success) by Sean Platt and Johnny B. Truant.

I’m only halfway through the book, but so far, I’m impressed. I’d recommend it to anyone who asks for help taking the nontraditional publishing route.

When it came to getting advice on indie publishing before I released Blind Fury, most of my information came from articles, workshops, writer friends with experience, and podcasts—like the fun, often profane, and always informative Self-Publishing Podcast produced by the authors of this book.

Write. Publish. Repeat. is exactly the kind of all-in-one resource I wish I’d had before I started this journey. But I’m a relative newbie to the game, and these guys are powerhouses, so I’m still finding all sorts of useful tidbits in the book.

Not to mention laughs.

The book is well thought out, chock full of helpful information, and most important, it’s honest. Sean and Johnny don’t promise you’ll get rich quick (or ever), or give you questionable tricks to game the system that will only work until the next algorithm update. They’re careful to give advice that’s as “evergreen” as possible, and they never tell you it’s going to be easy.

But they’re damn nice about it.

With the duo’s collective voice evident on every page, the book is both educational and entertaining. If you’re familiar with Johnny, Sean (and David), you’ll feel their presence in the virtual pages. If not, you might find you want to get to know them better.

Let’s just say I don’t get bored on the cross-trainer at the gym, and I have to hold myself back from nodding in agreement and/or laughing out loud, lest I appear crazy.

If you’re looking for an informative, inexpensive (currently $5.99) guide to publishing your own work that won’t put you to sleep, I recommend Write. Publish. Repeat.

(Full disclosure: Some small part of me started reading the book because several people mentioned that’s how they found me—it was fun to spot my name in the pages (twice!)—and I was a guest on the authors’ podcast in 2012. I paid for my copy of the book, and the authors have no idea I’m reading it. Mostly, I wanted to see what these super-savvy guys had to say. 😉 )

My first podcast appearance

Today marks my first time on a podcast. It's with the crazy bunch of guys from the Self Publishing Podcast, and we're basically gushing about Scrivener the whole time. It was fun!

I'd love to hear what you thought, or what you love about Scrivener that I didn't get to mention.
