School daze

Forgive my less than stellar blogging schedule lately. Even though the boys started school this week, I’m busier than ever getting caught up on appointments and errands, school supply shopping (my personal 7th level of Hell), and getting ready for company this weekend.

I’m also in school myself, taking a class on pacing by the wonderful Mary Buckham. I’m certain I’ll have some general thoughts to share before it’s over. There are probably 75 people in the class which means many emails to wade through. I know I’d learn a lot from reading Mary’s comments on everyone else’s homework—a unique feature you often won’t get in a traditional classroom—but I just can’t commit that much time to it.

I did get some writing done on the new book this week, but most of my “working” time has been spent on GMC, story structure, and general brainstorming. Today I spent two hours on my back deck enjoying the fabulous weather and writing a scene that will most likely end up in the Unused Scenes folder in my Scrivener file. 😉

In addition to all that, my husband and I are going back to school. For martial arts this time. We spent our last two years of our previous tour in Virginia working on Tae Kwon Do, and were eager to get back into something similar. This time, however, we decided to go with Kung Fu. It’s what we originally wanted to try before we were talked into TKD, and the Master that taught it at our old school just opened a new center of his own. As usual, everything lined up perfectly.

We started Monday, and it was great to be back. Martial arts combine the best of yoga’s soothing meditative moves with the heart-pumping work out of punches, kicks, and sparring. I didn’t realize how much I missed that until we were in class.

As far as I’m concerned, you’re never too old to learn something new. In fact, if I stop learning, then what’s the point of life?

How about you? Got anything new on your plate?
