Scrivener for Dummies

My First Book!

Turns out I'm getting published this year [insert high-pitched scream of excitement and goofy dance here] but my first book will not be a romantic suspense. In keeping with my techie background, it will instead be a guide to–you guessed it–Scrivener.

Scrivener For Dummies, in fact, published by those fabulous folks at John Wiley & Sons. It's pretty crazy to get a phone call from a publisher to accept your proposal, and then walk upstairs where you have a small collection of those catchy yellow and black books, knowing one will soon be yours.

I'm still kind of in a state of shock over it–as well as author deadline panic–but I'm definitely euphoric.

I can't wait to share my first print baby with you sometime in the fall (most likely Sept/Oct)!

UPDATE: The book is due out mid-August.

Tell your friends!

I have pre-ordered. The online class was amazing, so I have great confidence the book will be fantastic as well.

    Hi Gwen,

Will the book cover both OS versions thus far? Congratulations on getting the go ahead!

stacyuk: It will cover the Mac version, with notations where Windows differs. The thinking is that eventually, Windows will catch up. Thanks!

Finally! It landed on my doormat this afternoon. My god, now I have to set myself to work through the pages.
(I dislike the paper type John Wiley uses for there Dummies® series. I hope it will stand the test of time.)

Hello – which version of Scrivener is Scrivener for Dummies based on??

    thank you

    • Reply

Hi, Gwendolyn. It’s written for a slightly older version of Scrivener for Mac 2, though much of it applies to Windows 1.x as well. Actually, more of it applies to Windows now than it did when first released.

The most noticeable difference on the Mac version, if I remember correctly, is that the Inspector buttons are now at the top. There were some other changes to things like Compile and a few other functions, but the bulk of it is the same.
