Rear window

My rear window is where Alabama will be by this time tomorrow. I can't believe it's finally here!! We have my husband's graduation in the morning, our rental walk-through in the early afternoon, then we weigh the cars (fully loaded this time), and we're outta here!

Can you tell I'm excited?

I don't hate Alabama. In fact, I wrote a whole post about the things I liked. Still, a southern lady I'm not, and I know I'll be more comfortable back in the international metroplex of northern Virginia/DC. It's the only place east of the Rockies where I don't feel out of place. You know, being a western girl and all. 😉

Some things I won't miss about Prattville/Montgomery?

  • Long, hot, sticky summers
  • No curbside recycling!
  • Being inundated with conservative politics and religion. Whatever you believe is fine, just don't bludgeon me over the head with it. I think this outspokenness is becoming more common all over the country, but I really noticed it here.
  • Grocery clerks who've never heard of bulgur
  • No Trader Joe's or Whole Foods
  • No Pei Wei or Qdoba
  • Did I mention the lack of curbside recycling yet?
  • A decent library with basics like online holds and renewals, and a good catalog of titles

I will happily give up my cheap rent to buy an overpriced house in one of my favorite places in the U.S. Can't wait until Wednesday when we arrive!

Isn’t there are song? Happiness is Alabama in my rear view mirror.” Or, was that Lubbock, TX? Anyway. Just remembering. 🙂

Have a safe trip Gwen. I remember packing up the entire family last summer in Alexandria, VA and moving the tribe to Chicago. Very exciting but also very stressful.

Have fun, be safe and if you need family entertainment you can all gather around the computer and read each other stories from Atomic Gator

Thanks, Rich. Exciting but stressful about covers it. The last few days have been okay, but house hunting starts Thursday. Oy.

And I’ve been keeping up with your blogs. Thanks for the laughs. 😉

Thanks for the Blog Roll. I’m honored since I’m obviously the only one that is not a writer per say, since I get the (comedy) tag.. lol

I find it very amusing you are excited about moving to the DC area as my husband and I are very excited about the possibility of leaving it!

I think it’s nice here, but I am so ready to trade in my overpriced condo for a real house, with more than 4 rooms and hopefully a yard!

Seriously though, I hope you have a great move and enjoy being somewhere you love. Good luck.

Well, it always helps to know that we’ll leave again in a few years. The cost of living and traffic suck, but after several assignments (Air Force) with little to offer, northern Virginia was a nice change. We had the big house out in Gainesville last time, but will be looking to move closer, and thus downsizing. I have so many things left to do in the area before we move again next time.

Good luck with your own move. I hope you end up somewhere you love.

I love Northern VA–I miss it so much. Glad you are heading back to the land of the Beltway Bandits.

    🙂
